Just Me

What's to tell about me that you don't already know by now?

Born and raised in the country's heartland, I joined the US military after high school, and settled in Southern California after my Cold War tour was up.

I found a wonderful woman who has been with me through many years of good times and the current not-so-good times (those cruddy post 9-11 and Great Recession years).

I've been able to work with some great companies, and even greater people!  Some of my experiences are quite mundane.  More than a few are precious moments that some people may probably never experience.   And perhaps one or two that I shouldn't have endured....snicker...

Working

  • Honorably serving with my brothers (& a few sisters) in the US military,
  • Dangling by a gunner's seatbelt during aggressive flight manuevers in a Huey gunship (perhaps this should be in the Play section...),
  • Working in a management capacity for (3) major Fortune 50 organizations,
  • Founding and running an LLC company for 5 1/2 years,
  • Completing >100 technology projects ranging from $10k to $10M in size,
  • Presenting at a state-wide seminar, at dozens of membership board members galas, and being published or written about in industry periodicals,
  • Now heading towards a long-term executive position - once I find the right organization to partner with, and
  • Being repeatedly recognized for my contributions to the company's success, such as:
    • Selected as company delegate to attended ceremonial bill signing with President Clinton (and a special taxi-up visit by Air Force One).

Life

  • Joining with my significant other in 1987, and still being in love every day since,
  • Bringing two wonderful children into the world, and seeing them achieve success in their academic, artisitic, athletic and life endeavors,
  • Having many friends, some new, many that have been around since the 80's or 90's.  And even a few whom I've know for about >35 years!
  • Recently building our own dream home, and
  • Making it to 40!  Ha - I'm sure I've spoiled atleast one bet out there...
Education:
  • Taking the long way - but ultimately graduating college with a 3.78 GPA (Magna Cum Laude and Dean's List),
  • Nearly complete (1 class and a thesis) from my Master's degree (3.8 GPA),
  • Being (9) classes shy from a 2nd Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice,
  • Completing over 3 dozen certificates on a variety of technical, project and business topic courses from the US Navy, Marine Corps, UCLA, McDonnell Douglas, KPMG, Novell, Global Knowledge, etc.
  • Invited to the California college honor society, and
  • Graduating Top Marine in my "A" school.
  • In retrospect, looking back at some of my high school grades - it's clear I wasn't applying myself in some areas.

Play

  • Founding a 50+ member car club,
  • Founding and hosting the annual Angeles Crest Fun Run from 1996 to 2003,
  • Being a board member and president of a major Southern California car club,
  • Co-hosting the largest US car show west of the Mississippi River
  • Was completely spoiled at several points in my life (okay - 3) by owning more than one V8 Mustang at a time,
  • Catching some rubber in the Twin Tunnels at near Eagles Roost on the Angeles Crest Highway,
  • Logging about a dozen hours in FAA or USAF certified MD-11, MD-90 and C-17 simulators (some are full-motion simulators),
  • Camping 9,000 ft up a mountain in the Angeles National Forest,
  • Mountain biking and sleeping under the stars at around 8,000 ft - dead center in the middle of earthquake ravaged California Highway 39, just above the Morris Dam in the Azusa Canyon,
  • Performing pre-game ceremonies on the field for the Los Angeles Dodgers,
  • Getting first row, 1st base seats at a Dodger game,
  • Getting special treatment as a Marine, and given front row seats to dozens of concerts,
  • Flying "Touch & Go's" at the Catalina Airport

Community Service

  • Elected to represent a 161 home community for 10 years as a board member and ultimately president of the Cimarron Oaks VIII HOA,
  • Appointed to serve on the Supervisory Committee for our church for nearly 7 years (before school took over my life),
  • Serving as Secretary of the Supervisory Committee for a major regional Federal Credit Union for 2 1/2 years,
  • Donating blood and plasma to the Red Cross from 1992 to 2003 (sorry guys & gals - it's been wild since 2004 and I've not made it back since),
  • Worked on a 1987 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade float.
